Science: We use the FOSS hands on science kit.  Our first unit is Life Science and we will be discussing trees.  There are 3 parts to the tree unit.  Fall Trees, Leaves, and Trees through the Seasons.  If you have any parts of trees, or things that come from a tree please send them to school.  Vocabulary Words to use from science:  branch, broad leaf, conifer, leaf, root, trunk, leaf, point, and twig.  If you have time,  go on a tree walk at a park or Lime Creek and discover trees.  At the end of October we will begin our unit on snails.  We are unable to order them anymore, so if you find one please have your child bring it in to share.

Religion: We are excited to begin using our new religion series.  The units we will cover September-November are  God's Creations and God and You.  We will also talk about Mary and how she is Jesus' Mother.

Math:
We will begin the year by learning about Geometry and Patterns.  We will identify three-dimensional (solid) figures.  We will talk about two-dimensional (plane) figures.  We will identify patterns and create patterns.
Use flash cards and have your child identify their numbers 1-30.
Please practice counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s, to 100. Your child should be able to print their numbers 1-30 by Christmas.
Our math series has an excellent math web page with practice and enrichment activities. It also has reading practice activities.
