Reading: September-November
ABC's
We have been busy learning/reviewing the lower and upper case letters of the alphabet. Please make flash cards of these to help your child remember them.  Another activity is to find each letter in print around your house.
Letter Sounds:  Please review the sound that each letter makes and encourage your child to sound out words that they don't know.
Sight Words:
Please review the kindergarten sight words.  We will be introduced to 5 during the next nine weeks.
A, my, the, like, go, and we. We encourage to work on the whole list.   Pick 2-3 words a week to review.
A fun activity to do is to print all of the sight words on 3 X 5 cards and hang them around the kitchen.  Make another set to play a matching game.  While making dinner ask your child to read the word on the card and then go find the card.
Your child will be introduced to these terms during the next 9 weeks; setting, main ideas, details, characters, and the beginning, middle, and end to the story.
The most important activity to do with your child is to read to them.  When you are done check for understanding of the story.  Ask them to retell the story to you or tell what was their favorite part.
